A car title, which identifies a person or company as the rightful owner of a vehicle, is a legal document. Alaska citizens must get an Alaska title within 30 days of the date of sale after acquiring a car in order to transfer ownership into their name. Alaska issues titles for cars, motorbikes, trailers, RVs, prefabricated homes, trucks, buses, and vans.
Original, replacement, misplaced, obliterated, stolen, defaced, and lien release. (ADD LIENHOLDER TITLE FEES $50.00)
*A VIN Inspection is required before a reconstructed title can be issued.*
A title that has been granted for a car that was formerly considered salvage but has now been fixed and made operational is known as a reconstructed title.
NOTE: From July 1, 1993, to August 5, 1994, mobile home titles were not issued by the DMV. For a mobile home bought within that time period, bills of sale are allowed as part of a title application. (So long as the previous owner obtained an AK title before July 1, 1993.) We will not recognize a bill of sale as a form of transfer of ownership for titling purposes if there is no record of a title having been granted or if the date of the bill of sale is before July 1, 1993 or after August 6, 1994
